Do you ever find yourself in the company of people who just talk too much? Often it is not worth listening to. It can be wearisome. It can become troublesome. In 2 Timothy 2, Paul warns young Timothy about this source of talking and tells him to avoid it.
“Avoid godless chatter, because the one who indulges in it will become more and more ungodly.”
“Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels.”
“And the Lord’s servant must not quarrel, instead, he must be kind to everyone.”
I Timothy 6:20 “Turn away from godless chatter...”
There is no doubt that too much talking especially concerning worthless chatter is not good for the soul or the mind. I have often left conversations feeling that I did talk too much and felt a heaviness in my spirit because of it.
This is simple teaching from the Word of God but will help us to avoid getting in trouble over things we should not have said and hurt someone through careless talk. Let our talk be wholesome like salt that flavors.
If you would like to read more about this subject read the short book of James. He warns of the use of the tongue and the damage it can do.
